This is a neighborhood located in the south east Scarborough in Toronto, Canada. Highland Creek lies to the south of Highland Creek River, while to the east is Port union and West Rouge neighborhoods. Lying to the west are Woburn and West Hill while to the south there is Centennial Scarborough. The University of Toronto is located in the western portion and is one of the landmarks of the area. The area is home to some of Scarborough’s oldest buildings located along Old Kingston Road. Highland Creek River is a meandering river and a habitat to several fish species such as trout, bass and carp. The river empties into Lake Ontario that is to the south of Lawrence Avenue. Other landmarks of the area include the Highland Creek public School, the W.J Morrish General Store and the Military trail.
Most of the people do their shopping along the Old Kingston Road where there is also supermarket, flower shop, dress shop, bakery, dry cleaners, bank, bookshop and drug store. Restaurants in the area include the Ted’s restaurant which offers local delicacies. In the north-west on Morrish Road is the St. Josephs’s Roman Catholic Church, while to the west of the Road is the St. Anne’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. There are other churches of Methodist and Presbyterian believers.
For recreation there is the highland Creek Community Park which is off Ellesmere Road. The park has a children’s playground. Another park is the Colonel Danforth Park to the south, a famous place to hold picnics, bike rides, hiking and walking. In addition there is the Toronto Public Library which is a useful information centre especially for a new person to the area and also offers reading programs to children. Schools in Highland Creek are public primary, public high schools, catholic schools, private, private Jewish school, Colleges and university.
