L’Amoreaux homes in Scarborough

L’Amoreaux is a suburban area in the North end of Toronto, Canada which is named after Josue L’Amoreaux who was a French settler. It is made up of smaller subdivisions of communities which are: Wishing Well, Bridlewood and Bamburgh. Each of these communities has their own school, parks and shopping centre. The neighborhood is made of tree-lined streets, pedestrian sidewalks and beautiful family homes. The main landmarks of L’Amoreaux are the Ontario Hydro Fields, L’Amoreaux Park, Bridlewood Mall and the Tam O’Shanter Golf course.

L’Amoreaux is a diverse neighborhood whose residents are middle class citizens. It slightly shows some French flavor. The most predominant ethnicities are the Chinese, followed by the South Asian backgrounds.

Shopping is done mainly in the Bridlewood Mall which is to the north-west corner of Warden and Finch Avenues. The mall has 60 indoor stores. There are also small shopping plazas along thee arterial streets. The shopping mix includes restaurants, health stores and herbal stores. The language used is a mix of English and Asian signage.

Recreation areas include the L’Amoreaux Park which is between Kennedy and Birchmount Roads. This is a large park with a Kidstown, tennis centre, and a community recreation centre. It also has a pond, stream, walk way, bridge and nature habitats. Off Birchmount Road is the Tam O’Shanter Gold Course. For adults over the age of 55, there is a multipurpose facility called St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre where they can enjoy bowling, mini tennis, yoga and art classes. There are two public libraries in L’Amoreaux, the Bridlewood branch and the Steeles Branch. There are about seven public schools, four public high schools and seven catholic schools.

Most homes were built in the 1950s through to the 1970s and mostly of the ranch style. They consist of bungalows, split levels and two storeys. The two storeys are large executive and stylish houses located in well treed lots.
