Woburn homes in Scarborough

Woburn neighbourhood, originally called Elderslie has tree lined streets, and affordably priced homes. It is bordered by highway 401 and light industry to the north. Its name changed to Woburn in 1856 after the opening of a post office in the Woburn Inn. The landmarks of the area are the Centennial College Progress Campus, the Cadabrae mall and the Golf and Country club. Urbanisation in the area occurred in 1950s with the construction of the painted post plaza and the destruction of Woburn Inn.

Houses in the neighbourhood were constructed in the 50s to the 60s. Houses here are detached, split level, bungalows, two storey and even townhouses. Along Lawrence Avenue East are rental apartments. The neighbourhood is mainly upper middle class.

The shopping areas in Woburn are along Markham road and Lawrence avenue intersection. The Cadabrae mall has a supermarket, Canadian tire and several retailers. At the Markham Road’s north east end corner is the Cedar Heights Plaza. Along the Lawrence Avenue also you can find a pharmacy, Chinese supermarket, hardware store, sports store, medical offices and Indian food shop. Other places to shop are along the Ellesmere Road and in the Painted Post Plaza.

Woburn contains various recreation spots such as the Scarborough Centennial Recreation Centre which has ice arenas and the Cedarbrook Community Centre and Park. The latter is found off Daphne Road and has modern facility.

There are about seven public schools and two public high schools in Woburn neighbourhood. The catholic schools are two. Transportation by bus service connects Bellamy, Ellesmere and Markham Roads. Most parts of the City can be accesses by motorists via the Highway 401.
